COM Awards Design Contract for New Academic Center

Kentfield, CA—April 22, 2010—On Tuesday, April 20, at its regular monthly meeting, the College of Marin Board of Trustees selected TLCD Architecture and Mark Cavagnero Associates (MCA) to design the New Academic Center (NAC) at the Kentfield campus. The Board awarded TLCD Architecture a short-form contract in the amount of $50,000 to start the design process.

For this project, the TLCD team includes Mark Cavagnero Associates (MCA) as design architect. The two firms first joined forces in 2004 while pursuing work at Napa Valley College; they also participated together in the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Competition in 2006. TLCD brings over a decade of community college experience to the project with experience in planning, programming and project execution of community college facilities. The new campuses and signature projects for the Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino districts make TLCD a premier North Bay firm for community college design.

MCA brings nationally recognized design skills to the team. The firm’s projects include the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco; the Rafael Film Center, San Rafael; Headlands Center for the Arts, Fort Barry; and 142 Throckmorton Theater, Mill Valley. The COM Measure C modernization team will quickly launch the first phase of the design process – programming validation – with a pair of kickoff meetings scheduled for Thursday, April 29. The afternoon meeting will take place from 3:00 to 4:45 p.m. The evening meeting will be held from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m., and will repeat the agenda for those who cannot attend the earlier session. Both meetings will be held in Olney Hall, Room 96, on the Kentfield campus and will be facilitated by the modernization team.
