College of Marin Trustees Pass Resolution Honoring Classified Professionals

District Joins Statewide Acclamation By Declaring Classified School Employees Week—May 19–23

KENTFIELD, CA—May 21, 2014—College of Marin Board of Trustees joined the statewide tradition of honoring classified employees with a unanimous resolution Tuesday declaring Classified School Employees Week and honoring the valuable work that they do.

Classified professionals “provide valuable and integral services to the Marin Community College District, contribute to a positive instructional environment and serve a vital role in providing for the welfare and safety of students,” trustees said in their resolution. These are people who “strive for excellence in all areas relative to the educational community.”

This year, Classified School Employees Week is celebrated throughout California May 19–23.

The tradition dates back to the 1984 annual conference of the California School Employees Association, which represents more than 210,000 school support staff. In 1986, the California Legislature designated the third week in May as California School Employee Week to recognize the essential work of clerical workers, para-educators, bus drivers, food service workers, maintenance workers and other classified school employees.
