Burning Flame Sculpture Dedication

All are invited to attend the upcoming dedication ceremony of Burning Flame, a powerful granite sculpture gifted to the College by esteemed Diné (Navajo) artist and Elder Harkin Lucero, Jr. Burning Flame, carved from 8,000 pounds of granite sourced from a sacred mountain in Taos, New Mexico, embodies Harkin’s belief that sculpture is “prayer in motion” and is intended to inspire future generations.

Harkin is a celebrated sculptor of Navajo descent whose career includes major public artworks across the Southwest and California. He is widely honored for his artistic and humanitarian contributions, including the Eagle Emmy Award, the Oakland City Council Humanitarian Award, and induction into the Bojack Native Hall of Fame.
