The film exposes how homeowners Paul Austin and Tenisha Tate-Austin got a lower appraisal value on their Marin City home than expected. Suspecting racism, they "white-washed" their house-removing evidence that an African American family lived there and staging the house to look like a white family owned it. They had the house re-appraised, and its value increased by almost half a million dollars. The film offers a local case of systemic racism tied directly to the themes of intergenerational wealth, redlining, and housing discrimination covered in The 1619 Proiect.
