Diego (he/him)
Major: Materials Science & Engineering
Hello COM community, my name is Diego. I was born in San Francisco but have lived in the East Bay my entire life. I am a first-generation college student and son of Guatemalan immigrant parents. I am a Materials Science & Engineering major interested in functional materials for energy storage and semiconductor devices. My career goals are to obtain a PhD and eventually work in the industry to develop these materials. Over the past three summers I have conducted scientific research at UC Davis, University of North Dakota, and most recently, Binghamton University in New York. Although these experiences, I did not know about them at first, and it took tremendous effort to obtain them while managing my coursework. It was through learning communities like MESA and MAPS that allowed me to gain independence and the confidence needed to reach my goals. I am now a MAPS mentor looking to return the favor and connect students to their academic and career goals. Aside from being a MAPS mentor, you can find me tutoring Physics, Chemistry, and Math in the Tutoring and Learning Center. Lastly, I am President of the Physics Club, a STEM community focused on developing technical projects. I am excited to meet you, my future mentees.

On campus, I also work as a Student Assistant at Umoja and am deeply involved in the learning communities. If you ever need to find me, I’m probably on the 3rd floor of the CSS building.

Arthur (he/him)
Major: Business
Hey guys, my name is Arthur, and I'm an international student from Brazil. I'm a business major starting my second year at COM, with my sights set on transferring to a 4 year university once I finish my coursework here. When I first arrived at COM, I felt a little lost. I didn't know anyone at the college, and I didn't know MAPS existed, so I went through my first semester without a mentor to guide me. That's exactly why I want to make sure incoming students know about MAPS from day one. I'm here to help them reach their goals and ambitions at COM, and to make navigating all the resources on campus easier. I'm excited to get to know you all!
