Meet the Tutors and Assistants
Nataani Cleeveland
He/Him
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hi my name is Nataani. I was born in Phoenix, AZ but I was raised in Marin for most of my life. I am in my 3rd year at COM. I will be applying to transfer in fall of 2026. Outside of school I coach high school wrestling, enjoy lifting, and like to travel.
Colyer Durovich
He/Him
Major: Applied Math
Hi, I'm Colyer! I’m studying math/engineering with the goal of going into systems engineering. In the past, I’ve studied many things, including environmental studies and architecture - I'd like to bring it all together to work towards optimizing large systems to better support societal and environmental goals. This past year I’ve been helping with biodiversity monitoring at COM and will be working with the COM Student Green Team this year. For most of the last 10 years I’ve worked as a nanny, playing music has been a central part of my life, and I love to play soccer and ping pong (and cards!) and to garden and hike.
Benjamin Kan
He/Him
Major: Civil Engineering
My name is Benjamin Kan, I'm born and raised in Marin County but lived in So-Cal for a few years. I'm looking to transfer to a 4-year university to study civil engineering. My love for community service and giving back to others pushed me towards tutoring this year. I want to help others succeed and find the path that's right for them as we build our community here in MESA and COM. This semester I am tutoring Chem-114, 131.
Jammie Kuramoto
She/They
Major: Biology
Hi hi! I'm JJ or Jammie (pronounced Jamie) and I use she/they pronouns. I've been at COM for more than a couple years and I'm so glad to finally be joining MESA as a student assistant and tutor for Intro Chem and Biology this year! I've been part of the MESA community for a while as I explored various career/major options. Outside of my many ventures in different educational pathways, I love food, nature, gaming, fashion, and way too many different hobbies. Feel free to chat with me about anything!
Jacob Lebowitz
He/Him
Major: Biochemistry
Hi everyone! My name is Jacob. I was born in Zionsville, Indiana and raised all over the Midwest from Missouri to Wisconsin and everywhere in between. I moved to California in 2012. I am going into my final two semesters here at College of Marin. My goal is to transfer to UC Davis next fall to study biochemistry and hopefully continue to get my PhD so I can conduct research in pharmaceuticals and eventually become a college professor. Outside of academics, I love sports and play basketball regularly. I am also an avid movie watcher, and I love playing video games.
Ethan Moreno
He/Him
Major: Biochemistry
Hello, I’m Ethan! I am a fellow student at COM studying biochemistry with hopes to transfer to a UC and pursue medical school. MESA has always been very welcoming to me, and I can’t wait to welcome other students and help them reach their educational goals.
Nick Nguyen
He/Him
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Starting this semester, I’ll be entering my second year at College of Marin. I’m excited to join the MESA team as a Calculus tutor and look forward to supporting students in additional subjects in the coming years. I’m especially passionate about pure mathematics, automation, and cats. In the future, I hope to transfer to a UC to continue my studies in engineering. Outside of school, I enjoy working on personal research projects and building spreadsheets to track ongoing data.
Isela Sosa
She/Her
Major: Mechanical Engineering @ UC Davis
Hello, my name is Isela. I’m a first-generation student and the mother of two children. I started at COM in 2018, and my goal was to improve my English to get a better job, but on the way, I discovered that I was good at math. My journey has been challenging because I had to work as a janitor at night to provide for my family while attending school. However, with the support I received from COM, EOPS, and MESA, I transferred to UC Davis as a Mechanical Engineering major.
I’m really happy to now have the opportunity to work for MESA this semester, because since the day I left, I knew I wanted to come back and support students the way Nicole and Guadalupe supported me during my time here. I’m hoping to set up a 3D printer and create an easy manual to use it, but I’m also hoping to share my experience as a non-traditional student transferring to a four-year university and studying in a male-dominated major such as engineering.
