Meet the Tutors and Assistants
Emily Cardwell

Major: Public Health
Hi I'm Emily! I’m in my third year at College of Marin and plan to transfer to a UC to study Public Health, with potential interests in Biochemistry. My goal is to pursue a career in healthcare and eventually attend medical school. MESA has been such a valuable resource for me over the past few years, and I’m excited to get more involved by supporting fellow students as a tutor! I also am the Student Trustee this year, so if you’re interested in getting more involved on campus, I’d love to help. Outside of school, I enjoy climbing (mostly indoors), hiking, and exploring new spots with friends. I’m always down for a chat—so please don’t hesitate to say hi!

Major: Chemistry
Hi everyone! This is my third year here at COM. I am hoping to transfer in fall 2026 to UC Santa Cruz for chemistry or San Jose State for forensic chemistry program. Living half of my life here and in Mexico it’s hard to navigate college on my own, so feel free to ask any questions or if you just want to talk about anything! Outside of academics I enjoy swimming, music, hiking, and concerts.

Major: Biology (Focus on Marine/Aquatic)
Born in San Francisco and raised in Marin, I am currently attending the College of Marin, where I recently earned my A.A. in Natural Science. I’m passionate about the environment and conservation, and I’m working toward transferring to either UC Berkeley to study Ecosystem Management and Forestry or UC Santa Cruz to pursue Marine Biology. My goal is to make a meaningful impact in preserving, learning, and protecting natural ecosystems.

Major: Chemistry
I’ve been raised in San Anselmo my whole life and am in my fourth year here at COM. I am passionate about Organic Chemistry and hope to get my Ph.D, work in drug research/design, and eventually be a professor. I’m applying for transfer hopefully in Southern California for the fall of 2026. Outside of the academic space, I love to travel internationally, read, play tennis, and work as a nanny and preschool teacher in Tiburon.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hi, my name is Dovas. I am starting my 3rd year here at College of Marin, and I plan on transferring to a UC, and getting my bachelor's in mechanical engineering. I am also interested in research and getting my master’s degree. I enjoy hiking, swimming, watching live music, and working with my hands. A life goal of mine is to work in every trade, so that one day I can build myself a house.

Major: Biochemistry
Hello, I’m Ethan! I am a fellow student at COM studying biochemistry with hopes to transfer to a UC and pursue medical school. MESA has always been very welcoming to me, and I can’t wait to welcome other students and help them reach their educational goals.
Elizabeth Ochoa
She/Her
Major: Bioengineering
Hi everyone! I’m Elizabeth, and I’m starting my second year at College of Marin as a bioengineering major. I’m planning to transfer to a UC but I'm still deciding which one. This is my first semester as a MESA tutor, and I’m excited to be part of a space that supports students in STEM. I moved to the U.S. about a year ago, so I get how hard it can feel to adjust to college especially as a first-generation student. I’m here to help however I can, whether that’s by explaining concepts, working through homework together or even just recommending good professors or videos that helped me!
