KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA -- College of Marin freshman Ben Lentz delivered a record-breaking performance at the 2025 3C2A State Championships, securing gold in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving events. This historic feat marks the first state diving title for the Mariners in 50 years.
Lentz, a 19-year-old from Pleasanton, dazzled the crowd with a spectacular 310.65-point victory in the 1-meter event, just seven points shy of the all-time 3C2A state record. His near-perfect execution showcased exceptional precision, control, and athleticism. The triumph followed his 3-meter win the previous day, where he scored 262.85 points, setting the tone for a dominant weekend.
Under the guidance of dive coach Denis Bondarenko and head coach Steve Carrera, Lentz’s season has been a testament to hard work, talent, and strong mentorship. His achievement mirrors the legendary double gold earned by David Cotton in 1975, whose legacy launched a celebrated national and international diving career.
Lentz’s achievements highlight a new era for College of Marin, solidifying his place in the school’s athletic history while inspiring the next generation of divers.
